The Importance of Vaccines for Disease Prevention
There are public health measures that have had an extraordinary impact on the health of citizens around the world over the years, and one of them is vaccination.
But we constantly ask ourselves: What are vaccines and what are their effects?
Vaccines are one of the health measures that have produced and continue to produce the greatest benefits for humanity, preventing diseases that previously caused major epidemics, deaths, and sequelae. Vaccines benefit both vaccinated individuals and unvaccinated, susceptible individuals living in their environment (herd immunity).
Does vaccination have risks?
Vaccines ARE SAFE. We always have to keep in mind that the risks of vaccination will always be lower than its benefits and that it is not better to suffer from the disease than to receive the vaccine: with vaccination we acquire protection by saving the disease.
Vaccines are very effective and safe medications. No medical advance has saved as many lives as vaccines; thanks to them the diseases that were once perceived as threats no longer exist or have been significantly reduced.
Their safety is very high, and they are the pharmaceutical products that are required to have higher safety standards: all vaccines that are currently administered have clearly demonstrated their efficacy and safety.
What should I do if my child has a serious reaction?
If you think your child is experiencing a persistent or serious reaction, call your doctor or take your child to one of our Health Centers or emergency room immediately. Write what happened, as well as the date and time it happened. Ask your doctor, nurse or the Department of Health to complete the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) form or call 1-800-338-2382.

- You don’t need an appointment to get vaccinated
- We offer vaccines for patients with a Government Health Plan, private plans and patients without a medical plan.
- The required documents are: vaccination card, green sheet (if applicable), plan card, social security.
- If you are a new patient, you should bring evidence of vaccinations.
